I couldnt keep he front end on the ground anywhere, but what bothers me is I remember my bike running like that, and it has gradually faded in power over the years, to the point I didnt really notice. Also, it was rebuilt about 6 hours ago bottom to top all OEM including new stock reed cage.
I have the Pro Circuit system for it,but it needs to be straightened out after getting smashed with about 2 hours on it. I'm not looking to break the bank, but just trying to see what others have tried and had work or not work for them. Thanks Chris. Yes you can make that bike competitive, one of the things that you may want to look at is milling the head to bump the compression as that seemed to make the biggest differences in the machines that I have owned.
I think in a lot of sanctioning bodies they also allow 2-strokes up to cc's so you may want to talk to Eric Gorr. Thanks Scott. When you are rebuilding the top end have you mic'd the cylinder out? Stick vforce 3 reeds in it and re jet it.
Like stated above shave and re chamber the head. I'll post my link on it. I'm thinking porting, milling the head, jetting, V force and pipe.
As far as ergonomics, that YZ felt soooo wide, like I was riding a horse!! My kid has an 03 CR, with PC pipe and silencer, and V Force reeds, and with my suspension that thing felt like a rocket compared to mine, even at my pounds.
I know it has to be able to be as fast as that YZ If you want to approximate the power of a late model YZ, you're not going to get there with a case reed CR without a lot of money. I think you are remembering the power of your 02 through "Rose Colored" glasses. Your bike never had much engine, that was the big kick in the gut Honda dished out to all of it's loyal CR riders that year.
The engine has numerous flaws that need to be addressed. For less money than is needed to bring your case reed up to speed, you can buy a used HPP engine from a CR and have as much or more engine than the YZ. That engine will bolt in to your gen 2 frame with very few modifications.
