Windows freezing vista

I started Windows off my recovery disk, had it do a repair. I thought I was home free, I used Internet explorer, defragged hard drive, closed and opened things. It seemed like everything was fine, so I tried to reinstall my Kaspersky, which was going fine right up until the last sliver of the installation bar and then it froze. I was able to run some diagnostics from BIOS and got the status 78 hard disk error, which google searches said it was a sign the HD is going or already gone.

So my question is : Is this just a hardware issue? Will a new HD fix it, or is there a problem with my windows? My important files were backed up, so losing the old drive is not a big deal. Please help me solve this problem. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question Report abuse. Hi, Damaged installations resulting from file corruption can happen any time. In reply to Rick Rogers's post on February 7, Hi, Thanks for you patience.

Some antivirus software can repair the files and move them back to their appropriate location. Most registry cleaners also diagnose and repair corrupt system file issues. Use our free system scan to see if registry repair software can fix your Microsoft Vista freezing problem. It worked and I have completed my scan.

If I was close to you guys I would bring a big plate of cookies!! Your patience and help is very much appreciated. Thanks again,". So check up which, if any, programs you don't need and uninstall them.

Clean up with a Registry Cleaner to clean up residual junk registry entries. PC DeCrapifier is a nifty program which can help you identify Craplets. Also remove from Start-ups several non-Microsoft items which you think you don't need them to start up, every time you boot. A little more on it here. Double click Administrative Tools and double click the Event Viewer. Expand Custom Views and select Administrative Events. This may take a couple of minutes to load.

Look for any events that display a 'Red error icon' that coincide with the Date and Time that the last freeze up or anomaly occurred. If you find one, double click that error to see the details. On the lower, left side of the details window, click the Copy Button and paste the results back here in a reply. Log Name: System. Source: EventLog. Event ID: Task Category: None. Level: Error. Keywords: Classic. Computer: Dossaji-PC. Event Xml:. You posted the event properly, unfortunately the only thing it shows is that the system was shutdown unexpectedly.

This is probably a result of the system freezing and requiring a hard restart to get it running properly. The problem is that when the system freezes, it is also not able to create the event that describes the problem. I would recommend trying System Restore to go back to a time before this problem started. Select a restore point that has a date and time prior to when you first experienced this behavior.
